Canberra cyclist Nathan Haas on podium at Tour de Suisse

Canberra cyclist Nathan Haas has put illness behind him to finish on the podium in stage two of the Tour de Suisse on Monday.

Fellow Canberran Michael Matthews finished fourth, one spot behind Haas, with Peter Sagan claiming the win in a reduced-bunch sprint.

Matthews is sixth overall, 23 seconds behind race-leader Stefan Kung, and is preparing to defend his green jersey at next month's Tour de France – although his main goals will be stage wins and helping Team Sunweb teammate Tom Dumoulin try to win the Tour rather than trying to finish in Paris in green again.

Katusha Alpecin rider Haas' hopes at the Amstel Gold Race in April had been ruined by a mystery illness and he only returned to racing halfway through May.
