Friday night the Margaret River Year 9-12 boys played an undermanned Capel side losing 6 – 1.

Capel fielding only nine of the regulations eleven players took control of the game early in the match with Capel player, Mitchel Scott, scoring 3 quick goals.

Margaret River Year 6-8 goal keeper, Isaac Chapman-Sharp, playing in his first game of higher grade hockey had his work cut out for him with Capel applying pressure throughout the game.

Margaret River steadied and kept Capel to 3 nil at half time. Coach Clint Gartrell asked the boys to continue to mark their players.

The second half saw Margaret River with a couple of scoring opportunities through a series of passes down the left wing.

With 12 minutes left in the game Griffin Keen slipped a well-timed ball past the Capel keeper to score the teams, and his, first goal of the season.

The Candy Cow Player of the Week was awarded to Archie Currell for his continued running and pressure applied to the opposition. Ben van Overdijk caught the eye of the umpires scoring maximum votes with his determination and ball skills.

Angus Currell also showed great determination, moving the ball well. And Henry Gorta, in his role of full back, repelled a number of Capel attacks and cleared the ball strongly.

The teams now have a two week general bye for the school holidays. If you would like to give hockey a go please check out the club website www.margaretriverhockey.org.au or contact club president Colin Fox 0400294737.
