Its the Queen of Rock n Rolls turn to get the doc-biopic treatment. Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin, whose credits include LA 92 and Undefeated, are teaming up with Lightbox duo Simon Chinn (Man On Wire) and Jonathan Chinn (Whitney) on a feature doc about iconic singer Tina Turner.

The film, which has full buy-in from Turner, goes into production this summer. Erwin Bach, record producer and Turners partner and husband will executive produce alongside Tali Pelman of Stage Entertainment which launched the stage show, Tina Turner The Musical in Londons West End last month. Will Clarke, Andy Mayson and Mike Runagall will serve as executive producers for Altitude.

Altitude Film Sales will launch the project in Cannes next week. Altitude Film Distribution will handle in UK and Ireland. Altitude previously partnered with Lightbox on Whitney, which will get its world premiere at the festival.

Turner said, “This is the first time Ive agreed to a be part of a major documentary about my life and its certainly a leap of faith. But Im excited about the process were about to embark on and hope my story, presented in an honest and authentic way and made by award winning documentary filmmakers, will give audiences a true sense of what life has been from my point of view. And if my story inspires people and gives them hope it will have been worth it.”

Born Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee, the superstars journey had humble beginnings, singing in local church choirs before landing her big break performing with Ike Turner, whom she eventually married. Despite great international success, as was well-documented, theirs was a turbulent and violent marriage, until Turner finally found a way to escape. The couple divorced in 1978, leaving her with little but the stage name he had given her. However, she would go on become one of the most successful recording artists of the 20th century with a string of hits including Simply The Best, Whats Love Got To Do With It and Tiny Dancer.
