Coronation Street have revealed danger ahead for young Summer next year as she finds herself on the radar of killer Pat Phelan. But is he to be feared in this scenario or has he saved her from serious harm? And what could his ulterior motives be?
There are complicated weeks ahead for young Summer, who has just started to settle into life with would-be adoptive parents Billy Mayhew and Todd Grimshaw. Ater Billy spirals out of control when the secret of Susan Barlow’s death emerges, Todd is persuaded by a vengeful Peter to take Summer away where no-one can find them.
This sparks the end for Bruno Langley’s character but Summer will later return – only to find that her bigoted grandma Geraldine has joined forces with late Susan’s son Adam to ensure that Billy never sees her again.
By this stage, Billy is in a wheelchair after being left gravely injured in an altercation with Peter at Christmas and with his life falling apart, he is forced to say a painful goodbye to Summer. Have Geraldine and Adam got their revenge?
As Billy continues to hit rock bottom and reaches out to his heroin addict brother, new pictures from location filming show that Summer’s story will continue. But quite what is going on remains a closely guarded secret.
As Summer walks home from school, she is tailed by a stranger in a car who pulls up beside her and starts speaking to her. Summer looks scared and a nearby Phelan intervenes and sends the mysterious man on his way.
At this point, despite having caused the deaths of several Weatherfield men, Phelan seems to have averted something terrible. But can Summer trust him – or is she going from the frying pan to the fire where the crooked builder is concerned?
We can’t reveal who the man is who has been tailing Summer, nor whether Phelan’s help is genuine because he cares for Eileen or he wants something back for helping Summer. But the complexities of the long running story are set to grow as these pictures add more intrigue.
Connor McIntyre, who plays Phelan, was spotted filming with young star Matilda Freeman on a cold, winter’s day for the episodes which will air next year.
The exact date of when these developments will play out – and where they fit into the story – can’t be revealed so fans will have to tune in to see what transpires.
