New artwork for Nyngan Health Service

Visitors of the Nyngan Health Service will see new masterpieces decorating the walls of the waiting room and emergency waiting room.

Last week Nyngan Health Service were gifted two paintings by the Bogan Aboriginal Corporation.

Local artist Stanley Lord created the masterpieces which are now on display at the Health Service centre.

Nyngan Health Service Manager Jenny Griffiths said, “it came about as a lovely gift from the Bogan Aboriginal Corporation.”

“[Tommy Ryan] wanted to donate them, they arrived and they’re beautiful, massive and huge.”

“We’re excited to receive them,” Ms Griffiths said.

Ms Griffiths said that it was a wonderful gift as there has been much research done to suggest that artwork helps to promote health and wellbeing.

“They’ve done a lot of work to find that art makes a difference when accessing health.” She went on to discuss that often new health facilities are built with a lot of thought going into artwork.

“We hope that displaying them it will make for a more welcoming environment.”

Mr Lord was born in Bourke and grew up in Brewarrina, but has been living in Nyngan for the past 15 years.

The painting is titled ‘My Flag My Food’ and shows what the flag means to Mr Lord and demonstrates his family and where he has come from.

Hanging next to the paintings is a description of the painting written by Mr Lord explaining what the representation means.
