The superstar was confirmed dead on Saturday evening but reports earlier had revealed how Sredevi, who was in Dubai for her nephew’s wedding, was discovered in the tub by her husband, film producer Boney Kapoor.
It has been claimed that Kapoor, who had left Dubai for Mumbai earlier in the week but returned to the city for dinner on Saturday evening, woke Sridevi up around 5.30 pm and the couple chatted for around 15 minutes before Sridevi went to the bathroom to prepare for the evening ahead.
When she didn’t come out for some time, Kapoor knocked and then forced open the door to see the actor ‘lying motionless in a bathtub full of water’, according to the Khaleej Times.
‘He tried to revive her and when he could not, he called a friend of his. After that, he informed the police at 9pm,’ the report says, quoting a source.
She was in the United Arab Emirates to attend the wedding ceremony of Mohit Marwah.
Born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, she started acting at the age of four with a role in the flick Thunaivan.
She is most known for her films Sadma, Chandni, Himmatwala and ChaalBaaz among many others and, after working in Judaai, she took a 15-year break from from her acting career.
In 1996 Sridevi married filmmaker Boney Kapoor, and with him shared two daughters – Janhvi and Khushi.
