Forget the Queens Speech (sorry Your Maj), the real event in the Christmas TV calendar is EastEnders. And, as ever, far from being full of joy, hope and goodwill to all, you can expect misery, showdowns and tragedy. And we wouldnt have it any other way.

Sure, were just entering November but already, snippets of what those all important Christmas episodes will bring are filtering through. From major developments for the Carter family to a return or two and from a big wedding showdown to Karen Taylor giving us all a tune – theres a lot going on.

Alfies back – to a major secret

Its no secret that Alfie will soon be back in EastEnders for a reunion with Kat but the smiles are surely not set to last as the secret of Hayleys baby daddy looks set to finally explode. With Dean Gaffney strongly hinting that the Christmas action is at the overcrowded Slater house, are we in for a Christmas Day showdown?

And will Kat and Alfie ever be the same again?

Will Stuart die?

Micks future looks bleak as he currently resides in prison facing years in prison for shooting Stuart – but at some point this winter, he will be out of jail and wanting revenge against Stuart. Stuart is the smug cat who got the cream right now but the tide is about to turn.

Mick may not have tried to kill him last time but this time he truly is out for blood as he takes Stuart hostage and prepares to bludgeon him to death. Can anyone stop him?

Phil Mitchell comes home at last

Phil will be back in time for Christmas – and there has been a lot going on in his absence, not least of all his wife Sharons illicit affair with Keanu. With Keanu and Sharon unable to resist one another, will Phil discover the truth?

Christmas always seems like a good time to explode these secrets – but it could be Keanus last.

When we spoke to Dean Gaffney recently, he revealed that there is the return of a popular character for a Christmas storyline and gave no further hints. Now, whether or not he is referring to Phil or Alfie remains to be seen.

Could there be a third comeback? Either way, one of the returnees at the very least will be at the centre of the main Christmas story. And in the new year, show boss Kate Oates has suggested she could be bringing back a further three familiar faces.

Mels wedding drama

The EastEnders cast have been on location filming a wedding day for Mel and Ray which is set to air over the New Year. Show boss Kate Oates has already confirmed dramatic times for Mel – but is she planning a huge revenge on her groom and will he play her at her own game?

With Mel knowing Ray is already married, she clearly has something major in store…

Nativity success?

Its not all disaster, showdowns and tragedy – there is a song in the heart of some of the locals as they get a choir together for some festive tunes. But can they lift the spirits of the community during what is traditionally the most miserable time of the year for Walford?

Actress Lorraine Stanley gave us a preview of her singing voice recently – we cant wait to hear Karen Taylor belt those carols out!

Goodbye Max?

We know that Jake Wood will be taking a break in the new year in order to spend two months on tour with his Pound for Pound show. So that inevitably means that Max will be saying a temporary goodbye at some point.

Could this mean that he and Rainie will reach breaking point and go their separate ways?
