ASOS is working with Kenyan fashion bloggers to create a new Kenya-inspired collection
It’s taken British fashion companies a long time to realise just what a big source of inspiration and creativity Africa can be.
African fashion is as diverse and incredible as the continent is vast.
There’s way more to it than the knock-off Kente print (which has probably been designed in Holland and produced in Asia) and dashikis you see being worn at every UK festival.
So it’s refreshing that ASOS has decided to work with Kenyan fashion bloggers to create a Made In Kenya capsule collection.
2 Many Siblings is a brother and sister fashion duo famed for their epic style and for bringing Kenyan fashion to the fore. Together, they run Thrift Social Nairobi – a project of ‘physical celebrations of art and wearable things’.
Vella Rossa and Oliver Asike announced the collab on Instagram – mentioning that model and designer Leomie Anderson is also involved.
‘So excited to share a little bit of the project we are doing in collaboration with Asos. Together with Leomie Anderson and Julie Adenuga, we will each be designing a capsule collection for their Made In Kenya SS18 line. This will be launched and made available for you sometime soon!’
The clothes appear to be being manufactured by Soko Kenya, a clothing unit in Kenya which aims to provide employment for local people, with a commitment to making an environmental impact.
So far, the duo has only dropped a couple of hints about what the collection will contain, but from first glances, it looks like there’ll be print pants, dresses and two-pieces.
We don’t know a drop date yet but boy, are we ready for it.
