JAZAN: The emirate of the Jazan region made great strides toward achieving a successful tourism industry, keeping abreast of the tremendous development witnessed in this sector in recent years.
This was achieved thanks to tremendous regional efforts to implement the tourism development project set by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH), in line with Vision 2030 of a tourism industry dependent on natural resources only.
Lying between a romantic sandy beach and the Al-Reem Valley, with its enchanted creeks and evergreen trees, the sub-governorate of Al-Shuqaiq located in the Ad-Darb governorate, is one of the best tourist attractions.
Hassan Al-Aqili, head of the Al-Shuqaiq sub-governorate, said development in the region had been founded on the principles of balance and inclusiveness, a strategy that had transformed the northern gate of Jizan region into a tourist destination throughout the year.
“The region has ambitious plans to implement several modernization and development projects in the field of services and infrastructure,” he added.
Al-Aqili encouraged businessmen to invest in hotels and residential units in order to attract large numbers of visitors. He highlighted how the government has paved the way for investments by continuously improving and developing public utilities projects.
Meanwhile, Ghassab Al-Otaibi, head of the municipality, explained that the Al-Shuqaiq sub-governorate is carrying out several public work improvement projects, such as asphalt paving, sidewalks, lighting. “The municipality is also working on developing the waterfront over a distance of 20 kilometers,” he said.
The municipality has put the final touches on the corniche project, featuring green areas, walkways, playgrounds, parking areas and family rest areas, he added.
Al-Otaibi explained that Al-Shuqaiq beach had a large turnover of tourists, visitors and hikers during the last days, looking for spending their leisure in the warmth of the nature, enjoying various activities that attract residents of Jizan as well as visitors from other regions.
The Al-Shuqaiq Shopping and Entertainment Festival, which is now in its fourth year, has welcomed thousands of visitors since its inception, he added.
The 45-day event includes circus shows, entertainment areas, amusement parks for children and a seating area for families. It also hosts an open theater offering various competitions and folklore shows, he said.
