Lorde has thanked her fans in a full-page ad in the New Zealand Herald today.
It comes after the Grammys faced backlash for sexist comments made by the President of the whole shebang, Neil Portnow, urging women to ‘step up’ if they want to win a gong.
Lorde led the feminist push on Sunday evening, after she refused to sing in a group performance after she was denied a solo slot – the only nominee in the album of the year category, made up of all men apart from her, not offered a solo performance.
She began the newspaper greeting with, ‘Oh, hi there…’
She then added: ‘I’m writing this from New York City. Angelo [her brother] and I sat in Madison Square Garden last night and saw a lot of crazy and wonderful things.
‘I just wanted to say thankyou, from the bottom of my heart, for loving and embracing Melodrama the way you did. My nomination belongs to you.
‘Thankyou, also, for believing in female musicians. You set a beautiful precedent! All my love, Lorde.’

It’s not the first time the star took aim at the show, after she tweeted earlier this week: ‘IF YOU’RE DEBATING WHETHER OR NOT I CAN MURDER A STAGE… COME SEE IT FOR URSELF’.
Ken Ehrlich, a producer of the Grammys responded to the controversy, telling press that the exclusion of the only female nominee was because there was no room for her. ‘I don’t know if it was a mistake. These shows are a matter of choices.
We have a box and it gets full. She had a great album. There’s no way we can really deal with everybody. Sometimes people get left out that shouldn’t, but on the other hand, we did the best we can to make sure that it’s a representative and balanced show.’

Following the awards, Portnow voiced the now infamous sentence that’s also drawn the wrath of punters, after he said: ‘It has to begin with women who have the creativity in their hearts and in their souls, who want to be musicians, who want to be engineers, who want to be producers, who want to be part of the industry on an executive level, to step up. Because I think they would be welcome.’
Stars including Pink, Charli XCX and Katy Perry responded, slamming his comments.
