Many people may have pondered as to why epic director Ridley Scott hasn’t made a Star Wars film, especially considering his status as a visionary master of special FX.
The king of science fiction blockbusters had turned in some of the genre’s finest movies over the last few decades including Alien, The Martian and Blade Runner.
But the Newcastle-born director’s reason for turning down the chance to direct a Star Wars film is because, as he says, he is ‘too dangerous’ to fit into the Disney Lucasfilm mold. And, as you may expect, he definitely likes to ‘control things’.
Speaking to Vulture, Ridley, 80, said he wouldn’t be a good fit for the franchise: ‘No, no. I’m too dangerous for that.
‘Because I know what I’m doing,’ he continued, discussing how he thinks his years of experience would not fit Disney’s trend of enlisting new and rising directors.

‘I think they like to be in control, and I like to be in control myself. When you get a guy who’s done a low-budget movie and you suddenly give him $180 million, it makes no sense whatsoever. It’s f*ckin’ stupid. You know what the reshoots cost?,’ he pointed out.

Meanwhile, following the predicted success of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, current franchise director Rian Johnson has been confirmed to head up a brand new trilogy.
The news was confirmed by Disney and Lucasfilm on Thursday November 9. ‘We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,’ said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.
‘He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.’
Recently, the Alien director also re-shot All the Money In The World to replace Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer, following sexual harassment allegations against the actor.
