Gal Gadot, Penélope Cruz, Seth Rogen and Kerry Washington have been confirmed as presenters for the 2018 Golden Globe Awards.

Despite Gal not receiving any nominations for her summer smash hit Wonder Woman, the Israeli actress will make her debut at the ceremony to help hand out the annual prizes.

Seth Meyers has been confirmed as the host of the glitzy bash, which honours excellence in TV and film and will be held at the Beverly Hilton in California on 7 January.

‘The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is excited to have Seth Meyers host the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards,’ said HFPA President Meher TatnA.

‘With his natural comedic wit and innate ability to charm audiences, Seth will help us carry on the celebratory tradition of recognising the best in television and film at the Party of the Year.’

Ricky Gervais took the reins for three ceremonies between 2010-2012 after years of the event taking place without a host; he was succeeded by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler who ran the show between 2013 and 2015, before Gervais returned once again in 2016.

Jimmy Fallon hosted in 2017.

The 2017 ceremony has been hit with criticism for a lack of diversity after a year in which diversity and the importance of women in Hollywood came to the forefront for many.

The problem has often been not that women or actors of colour are not deserving but that a combination of factors lead to them not being recognised – namely, that they aren’t given the roles, that the films about women and people of colour are not being made, or that they aren’t getting out to audiences.

This is what makes this year’s crop of Golden Globe nominees so surprising, as the past 12 months has been filled with such good Hollywood fare with box office successes that were also critically acclaimed – the dream combination for studios and awards producers who want their viewers to know the films being awarded.

Yet there were no female directors named in the Best Director category, with the five spots going to five men – Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), Ridley Scott (All The Money In The World), Martin McDonaugh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Guillermo del Toro (The Shape Of Water), and Steven Spielberg (The Post).

Greta Gerwig had been tipped to receive a nomination for her work on the critically-claimed semi-autobiographical Ladybird, while there was also no room for Dee Rees, whose Netflix film Mudbound only received two nods.

There was also nothing for Patty Jenkins, who directed Gal in the DC Comics film Wonder Woman.
