This is the moment which sees Max Branning left with a very throbbing cheek in EastEnders when he takes a step too far and crosses the line with his last remaining ally Stacey Fowler. Throughout Max’s spectacular downfall, Stacey has been there for him by his side, supporting him and even giving him a roof over his head.
She has defended him as much as she logistically can, knowing that beneath his portrayed exterior of hate and anger lies a kind and reasonable man. Martin has understandably been less than keen at having Stacey’s troubled ex lover – and enemy of the entire Square – under the roof but Stace is all about second chances. Or tenth in Max’s case.
However, she soon could be set to regret her caring nature when Max oversteps the mark and leaves her reeling. When he engineers it so that they are left alone, Stacey is uncomfortable as he goads her.
When Max then touches a nerve, he finds himself earning him a stinging slap for his troubles. He responds by telling Stacey that she has lost her Slater spark and is living a life of boredom with Martin but will she hit back by kicking him out in time for Christmas.
Max has already pushed away everyone else who cares and as he turns on his final friend, he could well be more isolated than ever. And there are more shocks to come too as Stacey’s phone will then be returned to her.

Max makes efforts to delete the voicemails of Jane Beale but the shocking truth will emerge leading to catastrophic events which tear apart the Branning family on Christmas Day forever.
