Emma Barton, even in death, still manages to cause destruction and misery and no-one is feeling it more than Moira Dingle who has tonight been unmasked as the one who killed the Emmerdale villain.
Fans watched as a flashback showed Emma goading Moira deliberately in order to get her snap and when she blamed Moira for Holly’s death, it paid off. A moment of rage saw Moira push Emma to her death and since then she has been hiding the secret that she was behind the killing.
All along, Natalie J Robb has known the truth and she reckons that it was the secrecy that has made storylines such as this and the death of Holly a success.
She told Metro.co.uk: ‘I knew from the start that it was Moira, but the show were then going to do three alternative endings, so none of us knew for sure and that was so the outcome wouldn’t be leaked. When Holly died it was such a shock as nobody saw it coming and that is much better for the audience.
Moira didn’t calculate this – she didn’t go to murder, she wanted to bring her down from the edge but Emma pushed the wrong buttons – don’t talk about her kids in the wrong way! Don’t push Moira when she’s angry! Emma made that decision that Moira would be the one to push her – she even smiled when she fell. She has won as all the pain and guilt will be onto Moira so she was calculating right to the end.’
Natalie assured us that while Moira continues to head for the edge in the wake of this, her relief at sharing the burden of her secret allows her to start to hold things together. But there are more twists still to play out.
However, it could open the door to future closeness for Moira and Cain. As Cain vows to stand by and support Moira, might they even reunite? Natalie smiled and told us that we would have to wait and see but we sense unfinished business there…
