A surprise face could be set to make a return to EastEnders over Christmas as the truth about what happened to Jane and Steven Beale looks set to emerge – with catastrophic consequences for Max Branning.
After Max encouraged Steven to kill Jane, he torched the restaurant with her inside and when Max then intervened to try and ensure Jane perished, he ended up causing the death of Steven.
When Jane came round after the fire, Max swooped in and blackmailed her, forcing her out of Walford for good. But a desperate Jane left Max’s ally Stacey Fowler a desperate voicemail warning her of what he is capable of.
Unluckily for Jane, Stacey’s phone was nicked and it is currently stashed in the Taylor household – until now. When Karen finds the stash of phones, she is furious but softens when she learns that Riley and Chatham were behind it and just wanted to raise some cash for their struggling family.
Karen does her best to return the phone to Stacey and after a wobbler where she actually considers selling it, she ensures that Keegan Baker gets it back to the rightful owner.
This is the catalyst for the voicemail being heard – and the full truth about what Max did coming to light. And it will destroy his world forever as a terrible event rips apart Christmas Day and alters life as he knows it.
But as the ticking time-bomb that is Jane’s revelation explodes, how will Ian react when he learns why his wife truly left – and will this herald the return of Jane?
As Max experiences his comeuppance, is Jane now safe to finally head back to Albert Square? Or is it too late, with Ian being left unable to track her down?
It remains to be seen whether Ian – and Max – come face to face with Jane or not but whether she is in the Square is irrelevant in terms of her playing a part in Max’s downfall. She most certainly does just that!
One to watch: Christmas Day
