Emmerdale misses out on BAFTA nomination as EastEnders, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Casualty battle it out

Emmerdale has been on an awards winning streak for a couple of years now – especially when it comes to viewer votes – but they wont be taking home a TV BAFTA this year as they have been left out of the nominations, with EastEnders, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Casualty making the cut.

Last year, EastEnders were snubbed from the category and Emmerdale were the favourites to win but Casualty took home the glory on the night. This year, the competition is fierce as all four soaps have had an amazing year particularly when it comes to issue led storylines.

So in this category, its anyones game really. Will Hollyoaks clinch it for the footballer abuse storyline that had a nation talking? Will Casualtys rape storyline and high octane motorway stunt steal the glory? Will EastEnders shining a light on knife crime be the winner? Or will the focus on male mental health make Corrie with one to shine?

We couldnt possibly even speculate at this stage but Corrie could potentially nab two prizes on the night as viewers can vote for TV moment of the year, one of which was Gail Rodwells (Helen Worth) moving speech in the wake of Aidan Connors (Shayne Ward) suicide, which was written by Jonathan Harvey.

However, the moment faces competition from titans Killing Eve, Bodyguard, Peter Kays Car Share, Doctor Who and Queer Eye.

Its not the first time that Emmerdale have missed out on making a shortlist recently as the recent Royal Television Society Awards left both that soap and its BBC rival EastEnders out of the running, instead pitting Corrie, Hollyoaks and CasuaRead More – Source
