Johnny Depp is very blue at Venice Film Festival ahead of Waiting for the Barbarians premiere
Johnny Depp has hit the Venice Film Festival ahead of the premiere of his latest film, Waiting for the Barbarians.
The stars new drama, also featuring Mark Rylance and Robert Pattinson, has its first screening at the festival tonight.
The 56-year-old donned a bright blue suit and matching shades for a photocall before the screening.
Johnnys new movie is based on the 1980 novel of the same name.
It tells the story of a magistrate living in the remote outpost who begins to question his loyalty to the totalitarian empire he belongs to.
Depp plays the main character Colonel Joll.
The photo call was also attended by Johnnys costars Mark Rylance and Gana Bayarsaikhan, plus director Ciro Guerra

Describing the film in a statement posted to the Venice Film Festival website, director Ciro Guerra said: When we began to work on the adaptation of J.M. Coetzees novel, I thought the story took place in a distant world in remote times.
As the filmmaking process evolved, that distant time and place began to feel closer and closer.
Now that we are done, the story has somehow morphed into a story about our present age.
The movie is competing for the coveted Golden Lion award.
Movies to have already debuted at the festival include Ad Astra starring Brad Pitt and Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix.
Johnnys best-known movies to date include Edwards Scissorhands, Chocolat and of course the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
