Cowaramup Bulls fall to St Marys in season opener
Cowaramup kicked off their A grade season on a wet and windy day against Saint Mary's at Barnard Park over the weekend.
After a long delay the covers were finally removed and it was decided the match would be reduced to a T20 with more inclement weather on the cards.
The Cowaramup skipper won the toss and sent Saints into bat hoping to make use of the tacky pitch.
Opening bowler Nick Healy, fresh from a pre season training camp in Victoria, immediately created chances beating the bat regularly.
Tight lines from Shepherd at the other end quickly brought about the dismissals of the both Lloyd brothers.
Saints veteran Marc Ford was then dismissed, caught at mid wicket by a horizontal Tebsy King in an early contender for catch of the year, the bulls were right in the game having Saints 3/42.
A solid partnership by Saint Mary's youngsters Nick Barr and Shae Thackarah kept the score board ticking, before two wickets in an over to Cowaramup quick Aaron Holben reduced Saints to 5/86.
Another rain delay saw the covers come back on before Saint Marys innings concluded at 5/122.
The fresh sprinkle of rain seemed to liven up the wicket, with Saint Mary's opening bowlers Pete Morris and Lewis Milligan taking full advantage taking two wickets apiece.
Seemer Peter Grygorcewicz and English leg spinner Joe Lowe also snared two wickets, whilst causing the required run rate to continually rise, before Cowaramup last man was dismissed on the final delivery of the match.
Saint Mary's 5/122 defeated Cowamarup 10/59.
Cowaramup Cricket Club is still seeking players of all abilities for the 2018/19 season.
Training is Thursday night at the Waverley Road nets in Cowaramup. Message the club via the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CowaramupCricketClub or contact Aaron Holben on 0439 014 804.
