Back in round 1 in the first week of May the two Cowaramup junior football teams, Bulls Gold and Bulls Red first met in two derbies, for U9s and U11s.
In this round they met again and it was great to see how much the kids' skills have improved in both divisions since the season began.
In the U9s, everyone showed growing maturity, teamwork and the ability to keep the ball moving forward even under pressure.
The Bulls Gold team probably started the better of the two in the first quarter, and some stand-outs for Bulls Red came with some amazing chase-down and tackles from Kai Luttrell.
At the end of the game, Pete Mammone, coach of Bulls Red commented on how well his team had honoured leads to find a team mate, and Nicola Payne, coaching for Gold, also was super stoked with her team's effort.
Coaches awards went to Flynn Yeatman, Oscar Buck and Jace Reynolds for Bulls Red; and to Cavan Payne, Matilda Olsen and Dusty Taylor for Bulls Gold.
The U11 Cowaramup derby was a cracker.
Bulls Gold probably got out of the blocks a bit better in the early part of the game and that led to Bulls Red coach, Darian Cheffers, asking for quick movement into the forward line, and for his players to look for their man and man-up in defence at the quarter time break.
The Bulls Red team kicked into gear from there and played great footy to finish the game full of running, piling the pressure on in the final quarter, as well as on the scoreboard. Bulls Gold were lucky to have Jarrad Taylor playing a great game at fullback and without him and Hamish Murray working together, Red would have probably scored more.
Mark Jolliffe coaching Bulls Gold singled out a great first half by Jake Miller, and asked the boys to think about what they were doing 'without' the ball, such as not leading into congested positions, and not hand-balling into the pack, or to a player already under pressure.
Coaches awards went to: Zac Mulcahy, Arkie Parsons and Jyah Dodd for Bulls Red. For Bulls Gold, Mark Jolliffe was happy with the effort of the whole team, but awards went to Jarrad Taylor, Tom Golding and Kian Monaghan-Hall.
