Already essentially under house arrest after being found guilty last month by a Pennsylvania jury on three counts of aggravated indecent assault, Bill Cosby learned today when hell discover whether he is going behind bars.
Having presided over the actors first trial last year and last months retrial for the 2004 sexual assault against former Temple University employee Andrea Constand, Judge Steven ONeill announced Tuesday that Cosby will face sentencing over two days in September.
“It is hereby ORDERED that Sentencing in the above-captioned matter is scheduled to occur on Monday, September 24, and Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in Courtroom “A” of the Montgomery County Courthouse, Norristown, PA.,” the Keystone State judge wrote today in a one-page order (read it here).
Structured a bit like a mini-trial, the sentencing hearing could see Cosby, who will be 81 years old by then, get 10 years for each of the three convictions. The much accused actors attorneys have said that they intend to appeal the verdict, and had wanted the hearing scheduled for December.
What they cant appeal is the stripping of honors that has struck Cosby even more since the verdict was reached April 26. Since then his Mark Twain Award from the Kennedy Center was rescinded, as were honorary degrees from the likes of Yale, who has never pulled such a plug before, and his alma mater Temple. His name and bust were recently removed from the TV Academys Hall of Fame, and, earlier this month, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted to expel him and director Roman Polanski from its membership rolls.
