Biden Expected To Unveil New Delta Variant Strategy

ibtimes– President Joe Biden on Thursday is expected to announce plans for a six-pronged plan to combat the spread of the Delta variant.

One White House official said that Biden will “speak to the American people about his robust plan to stop the spread of the Delta variant and boost vaccinations.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, 62.5% of the U.S. population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, with 53.3% being fully vaccinated.

The U.S. is currently the world leader in cases and deaths with 40.1 million cases and 649,000 deaths. According to the CDC, the current 7-day moving average is 153,246 marking a 4.9% increase compared to the previous 7-day average. The current 7-day average in deaths is 1,047 —  a 3.7% increase from the previous 7-day average.

Rising cases and the spike in the Delta variant have brought concerns to millions of parents as schools return to in-person learning and 20% of new COVID-19 cases are being found in children by the end of August.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Biden will lay out his strategy “working across the public and private sectors to help continue to get the pandemic under control.”

“We need to continue to take more steps to make sure school districts are prepared and make sure communities across the country are prepared,” Psaki added.

Biden has previously asked states to incentivize residents to get vaccinated by offering them $100 which would be paid for by the emergency recovery plan. Biden is expected to meet with his COVID-19 advisors on Wednesday before unveiling his plan.
