World number two Daniil Medvedev kicks TV camera in huge blow up at Cincinnati Masters

skynews– Tennis world number two Daniil Medvedev has lashed out after he collided with the on-court camera at the Cincinnati Masters.

Medvedev was tied 1-1 in the second set of his semi-final against fellow Russian Andrey Rublev when the tantrum began.

The world number two was chasing a ball deep in the court when he heavily collided with the TV camera – injuring his hand in the process.

The 25-year-old initially offered his hand to the cameraman and asks if he is okay but was clearly annoyed by the obstacle causing him to lose the point.

“Take it away! I almost broke my hand,” he told the umpire.

“I’m probably going to sue them, I cannot play. Call the physio, I cannot play. I’m going to sue them,” he said during the changeover, 7News reported.

Medvedev required a medical time out for his injured hand and would go on to lose the match 6-2, 3-6, 3-6 and exit the tournament.

The Russian who is known for playing from deep in the court had reportedly been complaining about the position of the cameras throughout the tournament – they had been moved wider by were moved again after his complaints.

After the match Rublev told reporters it didn’t appear like Medvedev was injured but admitted more space on the court was needed.

“Of course, in these moments it’s really dangerous … it’s not good for athlete because he might get hurt,” he told reporters.

“But I hope everything is fine with him. At least, the way he was playing, looks like nothing serious happened.

“It will be better if we have more space on court that allowed us to run everywhere we can, because sometimes (what) happens also to me that I want to hit and I cannot hit because the referee is standing there.”

On the women’s event Australian world number one Ash Barty advanced through to her sixth final of the season after defeating Angelique Kerber.

Ash Barty will play Jil Teichmann in the final on Monday at 4pm AEST.
