Perth COVID restrictions are easing further after last week’s lockdown. Here’s what you can do from Tuesday

abc– The good news is that the COVID restrictions in place in Perth and Peel are easing again.

With no new cases, WA Premier Mark McGowan says we’re good to move into a new phase of eased restrictions.

But with all the rule changes over the past 10 days or so, working out what’s allowed can be a little complicated.

Hopefully, we can simplify things for you.

Mask wearing is still on

That’s the biggie.

You still have to wear a mask in most indoor situations, including at your workplace and on public transport.

But outside, things are a little more relaxed.

You only have to wear a mask outside if you can’t physically distance.

So it sounds like taking a mask with you when you leave home might be a good idea.

Can I go back to the office?

Yes, you can.

Working from home is no longer the default setting, and if you can return to your workplace, you’re encouraged to do so.

Wearing a mask, of course.

Have the rules changed for Perth people on holiday?

Happily, yes.

Previously, you could travel outside Perth, but had to wear a mask and buy takeaway food only.

From tomorrow, you can visit restaurants, breweries, wineries and cafes, and enjoy  long lunches and wine tasting sessions to your heart’s content.

But you’ll still have to wear a mask when you do so, if you’ve been in Perth or Peel, until next Monday, July 12.

Can I visit family in hospital and aged care?

People in an aged care or a disability facility can have four personal visitors per day from tomorrow.

It’s important to note you’ll still have to wear a mask though.

Category 2 and 3 elective surgeries remain postponed at public hospitals until Friday.

Can I go to the pub or eat out?

The 20-patron limit ends at midnight, which hopefully means many more venues will reopen.

Restaurants, pubs, cafes and other hospitality venues will be able to have up to 150 customers, subject to the two-square-metre rule.

The casino, nightclubs and bars will be able to serve people who aren’t seated, and their capacity limits will also increase, though the two square metre rule will apply.

Can I host a party or get together?

Yes, as long as you don’t have more than 30 guests inside, which is an improvement on the current 10-guest maximum.

If your event is being held outside, you can have up to 150 people.

What about museums and playgrounds?

An important question, given that it’s school holidays.

The Premier says museums and playgrounds can reopen, but will have to abide by the two-square-metre-rule.

There’s also a 150-person limit.

Can I go back to my fitness class?

Your week of being a couch potato is officially over from Tuesday.

Indoor fitness classes will be able to resume, subject to the two-square-metre rule.

Swimming pools and recreation centres will also be able to open with up to 150 patrons, also subject to that rule.

Indoor community sport can re-start from Tuesday, and  spectators will be allowed at both indoor and outdoor sports.

Can events and festivals resume?

Mostly.

Events and festivals are allowed again, subject to capacity restrictions.

Major venues, including Perth Stadium and Perth Arena will be able to operate at 50 per cent capacity.

Seated venues like cinemas and theatres can also operate at 50 per cent capacity.

What happens next?

If all goes well, the current restrictions will ease further next Monday, July 12.

Here’s the Premier’s advice:

“It’s important to keep up the good work,” he said.

“Follow the restrictions, check in on the app, get tested and of course get vaccinated.”
