PM’s ‘slow approach’ to vaccine rollout leaves Australians exposed

skynews– Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s slow approach to the Commonwealth’s vaccination program has left Australians exposed to the infectious variants of COVID-19, says Shadow Health Minister Mark Butler. The federal government had initially said it would aim to have the country vaccinated by October 2021. However, only 4.8% of the population are fully vaccinated with latest figures showing only 1.21 per cent of Australians have received two doses of the jab. Mr Butler said the delay in the rollout will affect the distribution of booster shots which are scheduled to take place next year. “Scott Morrison frankly didn’t attach enough urgency to it,” he told Sky News. “He said ‘it’s not a race’ and his very slow attitude to this has left us in a very, very difficult position as we deal with all these very infectious variants. “We’re dead last in the OECD with only four per cent of the population fully vaccinated after more than four months of the vaccine rollout. “So there is no substitute, there is no alternative pathway out of this pandemic other than vaccination and we’ve performed appallingly badly on that.”
