Hollyoaks has secured another major victory, netting the three biggest prizes in the Inside Soap Awards 2019 – just months after it landed the Best Soap prize at the British Soap Awards. But the other soaps have reason to celebrate, with EastEnders and Emmerdale winning the highest quantity of prizes and Coronation Street, Neighbours, Holby City and Casualty also taking home gongs.

Its the first time in the history of the soap magazine that Hollyoaks has won the Best Soap prize, a testament to a huge year of the soap which has seen the hard hitting far right extremism storyline, the devastating ending for Lily McQueen and the footballer abuse storyline.

Stephanie Davis (Sinead OConnor) and Adam Woodward (Brody Hudson) were named Best Actress and Best Actor for their parts in storylines focusing on sexual abuse. Its a strong time for Hollyoaks, which recently made an array of announcements ahead of its anniversary celebrations including the returns of Jamie Lomas and James Sutton as well a new episode of Hollyoaks Later and a dramatic New Year flash forward story.

Elsewhere, recent first look episodes which saw a bomb go off as part of the radicalisation storyline achieved E4s best ratings of the year for the soap. We reckon that with all of this to celebrate, there will be some sore heads but wide smiles chez Hollyoaks tomorrow.

EastEnders has continued its resurgence with four awards, including a board sweep in the comedy stakes despite being known as a gritty and dark programme. Danny Dyer (Mick Carter) and Lorraine Stanley (Karen Taylor) are Funniest Male and Female while Max Bowden has silenced the initial Ben Mitchell recast doubters with an award for Best Bad Boy.

The ever popular child performer Kara Leah Fernandes (Bailey Baker) was still representing Walford as she took home another Best Young Actor trophy.

With Emmerdale also taking home an impressive four prizes, it was a great night for ITV too. Jane Coxs heartbreaking death as Lisa Dingle won Best Exit while the Maya Stepney story proved to have engaged viewers with Louisa Clein winning Best Bad Girl and the episodes which saw her exposed winning Best Shock Twist.

Meanwhile, much loved duo Lucy Pargeter and Dominic Brunt were the Best Partnership as Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk.
