Kim Shattuck, lead singer for punk band The Muffs, dies age 56

Kim Shattuck, the lead singer for punk band The Muffs, has died aged 56 a two-year battle with ALS, also known as motor-neurone disease.

Kims husband shared the news on Wednesday, posting on Instagram: This morning the love of my life Kim passed peacefully in her sleep after a two year struggle with ALS.

I am the man I am today because of her.

She will live with all of us through her music, our shared memories and in her fierce creative spirit. I love you always my Kimmy. Thank you for sharing your life with me.

We are very sorry to announce the passing of our bandmate and dear friend Kim Shattuck, the Muffs Ronnie Barnett and Roy McDonald said in a statement.

Besides being a brilliant songwriter, rocking guitarist and singer/screamer extraordinaire, Kim was a true force of nature. While battling ALS Kim produced our last album, overseeing every part of the record from tracking to artwork.

She was our best friend and playing her songs was an honor. Goodbye Kimba. We love you more than we could ever say.

The band was set to release their sixth album on 18 October.

In the late 1980s she was a member of hard rock group The Pandoras before she launched The Muffs in 1991 with her bandmate Melanie Vammen.

Melanie shared on Instagram that her heart is forever broken.

The pair were best friends for decades, and regularly shared throwback pictures on social media for fans.

I love touring with Melanie and I love our adventures! Great friends now and forever!! shared Kim in July.

The band were most famous for their tracks Lucky Guy and Sad Tomorrow, and a cover of Kim Wildes Kids in America which was part of the Clueless soundtrack in 1995.
