New fan theory suggests Scarlett Witch could be the next villain in the MCU universe
Scarlet Witch hasnt had the best time since being introduced to the Marvel films in Avengers: Age Of Ultron – but one new fan theory suggests that her bad experiences could lead to her becoming the next villain of the MCU universe.
To recap, Scarlet Witch – whos also known as Wanda Maximoff and is played by Elizabeth Olsen – has had a pretty bad time in the Marvel Universe.
Since she appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015, shes been manipulated by Ultron, lost her brother Pietro and then also loses her lover Vision, only to find shes unable to bring him back by the end of Avengers: Endgame.
One increasingly popular fan theory suggests that her series of tragedies could lead to her turning into the MCUs next big villain, due to her trauma causing her to turn evil.

As Reddit user u/cdhelt1225 explains, this could happen by Scarlet Witch trying to revive Vision to the point where she becomes a Doctor Frankenstein of sorts, leading her to alter reality.
This would be especially useful as it could be used to help Marvel Studios overcome a few plot complications caused by recent off-screen developments.
Sony and Walt Disney have been unable to come to an agreement that would mean Spider-Man can remain a part of the MCU, which means the character can no longer appear in any Marvel-produced films.
Scarlet Witch becoming a villain and being able to alter reality would mean this mishap could be explained by allowing Spider-Man to somehow switch universes.
It could also, the theory suggests, introduce both the Fantastic Four and X-Men to the Disney-owned universe, making an easy way to introduce mutants to the cinematic universe.
Scarlet Witch was created as a Marvel character in 1964 and last appeared in the franchise series in Avengers: Endgame earlier this year.

But, luckily, we wont have too much of a wait to see if the theory is true as Elisabeth Olsen is set to return to her role as Scarlet in two projects: the Disney+ series WandaVision and the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, both due out in 2021.
