Taylor Swift is set to headline one of the most famous horse races in the world – The Melbourne Cup – but not everybody is raring to go, with a protest already mounted by animal activists.

While news that the singer was headed to Flemington on Tuesday 5 November was only announced by The Victorian Racing Club today the reaction has been swift.

It may be the race that stops the nation but animal activists have called for a stop to Swifts show with the Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses launching a social media campaign asking Swift to say #NupToTheCup.

In a statement on Facebook the Coalition said: Taylor Swift has put money before compassion by agreeing to perform at the 2019 Melbourne Cup. An event where at least 6 horses have been killed over the past 6 years.

If Taylor Swift cares at all about other animals the way she appears to care about cats, she will cancel her show and make a strong statement that animal abuse is unacceptable.

The Look What You Made Me Do singer has three cats, including the newest addition to her furry family a kitten called Benjamin Button, all of which she has applied a trademark to.
