Tomb Raider sequel confirmed with Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft and Ben Wheatley directing

Alicia Vikander will return as Tomb Raiders Lara Croft for a sequel to the 2018 action-adventure.

British director Ben Wheatley will direct the movie, taking over from previous director Roar Uthaug.

The films official Twitter account confirmed the news, sharing on Monday: Were thrilled to confirm recent news that a new Tomb Raider film starring Alicia Vikander d directed by Ben Wheatley is on the way!

The movie, first made famous by Angelina Jolies Lara Croft, was given a reboot last year, with Alicia taking over as the fierce female.

A follow-up film has been in the works and in early September the High Rise director was reported to be in the running for the directing chair.

He is currently finishing off his latest project, a film adaptation of Daphne du Mauriers Rebecca starring Lily James and Armie Hammer, that will feature on Netflix.

Wheatley joins his wife and screenwriter Amy Jump on the Tomb Raider sequel, as she is penning the script.

Vikander made her debut as Croft in 2018 and shared her excitement over playing the iconic role – later admitting she had actually forgotten to tell her dad she secured the part.
