Sinead OConnors performance of Nothing Compares 2 U in live comeback will give you chills

Goosebumps (Picture: RTE(

Sinead OConnor is set to return to touring this year after a tough few years.

And her performance on The Late Late Show has confirmed her voice is still as powerful as ever.

Sinead made her comeback on the RTE flagship show accompanied by the Irish Chamber Orchestra and performed an emotional rendition of her biggest hit Nothing Compares 2 U, which she dedicated to the songs writer, Prince.

And if youre not ready to have a cry this morning… well, were sorry, its inevitable.

After bringing the house down and proving her voice is enough to leave us all blubbering wrecks, Sinead jokily smiled down the camera and waggled her fingers. Or we think she did, we couldnt see through our tears very well.

Iconic.

Viewers were stunned by the performance, with one person tweeting: Seriously. Holy Jesus and another writing: Not only does she still have it, but, she has it in spades. We dont deserve this but she gave it to us anyway. Goosebumps.

Earlier in the night, the 52-year-old sang The Pogues A Rainy Night In Soho before joining host Ryan Tubridy for a chat.

Discussing how she approaches singing, she uses the Bel Canto method, which uses emotions to get you to the notes, saying: The first rule of Bel Canto is never sing a song thats not in your nature, that you cant identify with the character.

And this method of singing caused her to park Nothing Compares 2 U on two occasions.

She said: I parked it for a couple of years because I am a Stanislavski singer, and I couldnt find anything, Id run out of things. Then thanks to be God, I had a tricky few years and that gave me back some stuff. For me, its a song that used to remind me of someone I loved who passed on, and I thought it would be very nice to dedicate it to Prince, actually. When I close my eyes, Im talking to him.

The Irish star is returning to touring after a break this month at the Feile 19 in Tipperary, followed by a number of sold-out shows, and considers it a bit of a comeback.

Sinead, who wore the hijab on The Late Late Show, said: I didnt necessarily intend for it to happen but God makes things happen. You plan all manner of things and then God just does what he wants.

I am enjoying the feeling of it, its nice. I actually thought nobody would be interested anymore. I really thought nobody was going to buy any tickets to the shows, I really thought I wouldnt even get any shows.

You get your sense of self-esteem and self-confidence from your work and its made me stand up a little taller, to get back to work.
