Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo has revealed Robert Downey Jrs painstaking method of filming his lines as Iron Man/Tony Stark for the MCU.

Turns out the actor has quite the different method to other actors, with the co-director explaining Robert likes to hash out various different lines, that are then copy and pasted into the final line we see in the film.

Pretty creative huh?

Speaking at the Chicago stop on the We Love You 3000 tour amid the digital and DVD release of Avengers: Endgame, Joe recalled filming scenes with the legendary actor.

Downey will never say the same line twice. Hes got a really unique process where he has an earwig in and he has an assistant who has been working with him for years, Joe began.

And what well do is like a Sunday before we shoot his scenes for the week. Well get in a room with him and the writers and pitch out alternate lines because he wants to keep it alive every take.

So then hell do a take scripted and then his assistant will feed him the alts, hell do the scene again with the alts, his assistant will feed him the next round of alts, well the scene again with another round of alts…

Were in awe.

But Joe wasnt done: And whats great is that after four takes, we can look at everything hes done and we can pick and choose and rebuild it, and then hell do it one more time with everything that seemed to work the best.

Thats a very different process than, say, Scarletts process. Its exciting to work with such a range of talent.

We cannot believe the craftsmanship that went into this, but were also hardly surprised seeing as Robert is a stalwart of the industry.

And its in Tony Starks nature to be a creative perfectionist, right?

Recently the actor opened up on leaving the MCU, after Tony died following the Endgame battle. After saving the world from Thanos, of course.

The actor along with Chris Evans (Captain America) retired their characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and insisted it was time.
