‘Pass happy’ Panthers must show more maturity after Broncos loss: Yeo

Isaah Yeo wants the "pass happy" Panthers to pick their moments over coming weeks as they enter a series of genuine do-or-die games ahead of the NRL finals series.

The Panthers blew a golden chance to put them in a prime position to play in the post-season with a scratchy performance against the Broncos on Friday night, with their defeat punctuated by handling errors and poor defence as they put themselves in danger of tumbling out of the eight.

It was a performance labelled "immature" by coach Ivan Cleary, who said his team must learn their lesson the hard way and learn it fast as they face a trio of games that will decide whether the make it into the finals this season.

Yeo and Cleary were both clearly disappointed with the performance but they have little time to kick cans with a tricky road trip to North Queensland scheduled for Friday night.

"We understood that was a key game and in the circumstances of the season, it was a really big game for us. We started really well but we dropped a lot of ball in the first half. That puts us in an interesting position over the next three weeks. They are all must-win games for us. We'll be up for it," Yeo said. "We're going to have to treat all of these like a semi-final. That's just the position we've put ourselves in over the next few weeks."

Not all is lost for Penrith, given the jostle for positions around seventh and eighth spot. But they must have far more composure in what looks to be a winnable game next week, then carry that into a difficult assignment against the Roosters, then the Knights.
