Universal Pictures has scrapped release plans for a new film, in which elite liberals hunt other human beings, following two mass shootings in the US in the space of one week.
The studio confirmed their decision in a statement days after they had paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt.
After thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film, the statement read.
We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.
The film, starring GLOWs Betty Gilpin and Hilary Swank, came from Jason Blums Blumhouse Productions and follows a dozen individuals who wake up in a clearing and realise they are being stalked for sport.
Directed by Craig Zobel, The Hunt is written by Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse.
This was a decision that the studio came to with The Hunt filmmaking team, but ultimately it was about making the right decision, right now. It was a tough call for the company, but studio leadership, led by Donna Langley, all agreed that this film could wait, a studio source told The Hollywood Reporter.

On Friday, President Donald Trump slammed Liberal Hollywood for the film and suggested that those who worked in Hollywood try to blame others after creating violence.
Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! he tweeted.
They like to call themselves “Elite,” but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite. The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos.
They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country.
Emotions are still raw in both El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, in the aftermath of the weekend shootings.
Critics claim Mr Trumps own words have contributed to a combustible climate that has spawned death and other violence; Mr Trumps motorcade passed El Paso protesters holding Racist Go Home signs, and he spent part of his flight between Ohio and Texas airing his grievances on Twitter, berating Democratic legislators, Beto ORourke and the press.
Mr Trump and the White House have forcefully disputed the idea that he bears some responsibility for the nations divisions, and he continued to do so on Wednesday.
