The much anticipated Elvis Presley biopic has finally been given a release date, and were going to be waiting a while.

Thats right, turns out we have more than two years to wait as the Baz Luhrmann project is slated to be with us on 1 October 2021, with production for the movie said to be starting later this year.

Austin Butler will be starring in the hit as the iconic musician, after beating the likes of Harry Styles, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Miles Teller to the part.

The 27-year-old started to make waves in the industry when he appeared the blockbuster giants Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, The Dead Dont Die and The Carrie Diaries.

And it seems the director is pleased with his leading man, as he spoke fondly of his choice when the news was announced.

Chatting to Deadline, Luhrmann said: I knew I couldnt make this film if the casting wasnt absolutely right.

We searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star, but also the inner vulnerability of the artist.

He added to the publication: Throughout the casting process, it was an honour for me to encounter such a vast array of talent.

Austin was recently seen promoting his latest project, at the Tarantino hits premiere, with his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens.

And while the star normally rocks a blonde do, he graced the red carpet with a jet black quiff, proving hes the perfect match for Elvis.

Wearing a black suit, the proud boyfriend looked every inch the superstar, emulating The King, as he wore a pair of high-waisted trousers and patent black shoes.

Speaking at the Los Angeles event, he said he was honoured to be taking on the role of Elvis.

I am just profoundly honored that Baz has invited me on this journey with him, Austin told ET on the red carpet.

Its an extraordinary privilege. And I just feel so blessed to be working with such singular directors like him and Quentin Tarantino.

The movie will be filmed in Queensland, Australia, and will follow Elviss journey from his poor childhood to being a global superstar, as well as his relationship with manager Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks.
