IT Chapter Two has a runtime of nearly three hours, director Andy Muschietti has confirmed.

The highly-anticipated sequel to IT, adapted from the Stephen King novel, follows a group of children as they are terrorised by a demonic clown named Pennywise.

Speaking to press (via Digital Spy), Andy confirmed IT Chapter Two will span for a whopping 2 hours and 45 minutes.

The sequel stars James McAvoy, Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain and Finn Wolfhard, with Bill Skarsgård returning with his horrifying Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

When discussing the films run time Muschietti said: At the beginning, when youre writing and building the beats of the story, everything that you put in there seems very essential to the story. However, when you have the movie finally edited and its 4 hours long, you realise that some of the events and some of the beats can be easily lifted but the essence of the story remains intact.

We ended up having a movie that is 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the pacing is very good. Nobody whos seen the movie has had any complaint.

The first film was released in 2017 and had a runtime of 2 hours 15 minutes, half an hour less than the sequel.

Though compared to Avengers: Endgame which had a runtime of 3 hours 2 minutes, and has since become the highest grossing film of all time beating James Camerons Avatar, this isnt too bad.

So Im sure we can hold in going to the bathroom one more time this year – presuming Pennywise doesnt scare us too much…

More: Avengers

Producer Barbara Muschietti recently explained how even more footage was filmed for IT Chapter Two which will be released in a directors cut of the film.

We will put out a directors cut because this time it definitely merits it, Barbara said.

We have some amazing scenes that didnt make it into the movie. You have to make choices sometimes and some things cannot be in this theatrical release but are definitely worthy of people seeing them at a later date.
