Quentin Tarantino almost cast Tom Cruise in Brad Pitts role for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, the director has revealed.

The combination of Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt has made Once Upon A Time In Hollywood one of the most anticipated movies of the year, but this pairing wasnt always on the cards.

Director Quentin Tarantino revealed how hed reached out to Tom Cruise to play stuntman Cliff Booth before Brad landed the role.

Speaking on to Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Quentin said: We talked about it. Hes a great guy, and we really hit it off.

It could happen on something else.

Tarantino also addressed whether DiCaprio and Pitt were his first choices for the flick, explaining how he had a number of actors in mind.

The reality of it was, people ask, “Was it always these two guys?” And Im like, “Well, its the casting coup of the decade.” You cant count on that, Tarantino said.

They both have to respond to it, they both have to want to play the roles, they have to be available. Theres a whole lot of stuff there.

More: Brad Pitt

The reality is, I had maybe eight different pairings of actors that could go together in a realistic way in this situation. Now, the ones that I got were definitely my number ones.

The film follows TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) in 1969 Los Angeles, as they stare down the face of a rapidly changing movie industry.

It represents Tarantinos ninth film, and it could be his last judging by recent comments claiming hed reached the end of the road.

Tom Cruise might be thankful for the break, considering hes set to star in Top Gun: Maverick and the next Mission: Impossible sequel.
