The 56-year-old, who starred as the half vampire, turned vampire hunter in the original 1998 movie, has revealed that hes totally cool after Marvel announced theyd be rebooting it with Mahershala playing the title role.

To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx, he said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

Although the news comes as a surprise, its ALL GOOD. Such is the “business” of entertainment! Much peace to the MCU crew – always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan [Lee].

Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together.

The original Blade movies (Blade, Blade II, and Blade Trinity) were released in the late nineties and early noughties, beginning Marvels film success.

The first installment is reported to have grossed an estimated $131.2 million (£105.3 million) at the box office and Wesley later reprised the role for sequels in 2002 and 2004.

Fans have since been speculating if hell make an appearance in the upcoming reboot.

The news of the remake stunned fans at San Diego Comic Con, after Marvel boss Kevin Feige told fans: Heres one Ive heard no rumours about.

After receiving a warm welcome from the audience, Mahershala, 45, then whipped out a Blade cap from his back pocket paying homage to the beloved character previously played by Wesley Snipes.

Kevin explained: We have, for years, wanted to find a new way into Blade, we love that character. We love that world. Now with Dr. Strange and the supernatural elements coming into the MCU, it felt like we could definitely start exploring that.
