Marvel have announced the release date for their anticipated Black Widow spin-off and Scarlett Johansson promises fans will get to know the characters many facets.

Scarlett, 38, will reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff in the Cate Shortland-directed standalone movie, which is set for release on 1 May 2020.

After Marvel announced the news at Comic-Con in San Diego on Saturday, Scarlett teased some of the details weve all been dying to know about where Black Widows story will pick-up after the events of Avengers: Endgame earlier this year.

Scarlett, who is being paid a reported $15 million (£11.8 million) for the spin-off, said of the assassin: I get to play Natasha as a fully realised woman and in all of her many facets.

Im excited for fans to see the flawed side of her, what she perceives to be the flawed side of her, and Im looking to wipe out some of that red in my ledger so you guys will be seeing more of that.

Director Cate also teased: I think thats what drew me to the story, shes got so many secrets, shes got so much vulnerability and I think thats what makes her such a great heroine.

In this film we get to understand her past and put the pieces of herself together and come out a whole person.

Given that Black Widow died in Endgame, the standalone movie will likely be a prequel.

During the Marvel panel at Comic-Con, it was revealed that Black Widow will take place in Budapest where Hawkeye and the spy spent some years before The Avengers series kicked off.

Florence Pugh will star as Black Widows sister, while Stranger Things actor David Harbour and Rachel Weisz are also confirmed for the cast.

With less than a year to go until its release, Black Widow production is well underway and filming began in June.
