Avengers: Endgame could have had a very different (and far gorier) storyline, as the Russo brothers have revealed they wanted Thanos to behead Captain America.

Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed the hit Marvel movie, admitted their initial plans for Cap at Comic-Con in San Diego, with Anthony confirming they clung to that story line for so long just for that moment of Thanos walking through a portal and dropping Captain Americas severed head.

Joe added: We had most of the script working except for the third act, because Anthony and I were clinging to this concept that we wanted Thanos to walk up to the Avengers and throw Captain Americas head on the ground.

We couldnt give up on it, and finally we said, “All right, what if we dont do that, can we find another way into the third act?” And thats when it turned into what it is now.

The ideas came after Chris Evans revealed that he would be retiring from the role of Captain America after the latest movie.

Thankfully the brothers decided not to decapitate one of our favourite characters, instead having his alter-ego Steve Rogers travel back to the past to live out his life with Peggy Carter, his wartime love interest.

The Russos agreed this was a much more pleasant way to end Captain Americas tenure, rather than the alternative which was way too dark, with Anthony telling Entertainment Weekly: Thanos is a rough dude.

And THAT is the understatement of the century right there. Either way, were glad he got his happy ending instead.
