With a pretty solid Marvel writer in the form of Mark Millar claiming Taron Egerton will be the next Wolverine, people have been responding to the idea of the Rocketman actor taking over from Hugh Jackman.

Hes got the charm, hes go the charisma, we know hes got the singing talent – but can he take on the layered and often-misunderstood X man?

Fans of the beloved franchise are sceptical as they debated who could take on the iconic character now the X-Men can be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But us? Hey, we have a feeling the kid can ace whatever he lends his might to.

Chatter all kicked off when Mark – who has the comic chops in creating graphic novels in Wolverine: Old Man Logan and Civil War – responded to a fan who suggested he predicted the future in a 2002 comic panel that featured a Samuel L Jackson-esque Nick Fury and a reference to future Iron Man Robert Downey Jr long before 2008s Iron Man.

Its a mighty call that has understandably stirred up the internet.

We havent seen Hugh – who took on the role in 2000s X-Men – helm the clawed crusader since 2017s Logan (despite an appearance in Deadpool 2 last year) when he decided to step away from the character.

But fans were a little sceptical at the imaginary casting, wondering whether Taron, who is really acing those dramatic roles, we have to say, has the chops for Wolverine.

One mate knew they were wading into the waters of trolling when they wrote on Twitter tonight: So,, unpopular opinion maybe? but i dont really see taron as wolverine idk if this will turn out to be true maybe ill change my mind [sic].

But others were a little more optimistic, as a fan simply wrote: Taron Egerton would make a spectacular Wolverine!

While another said Taron is the only actor they see as Wolverine, it was followed by a punter who said they were confused and not happy with the idea.

While its all very speculator, Mark has worked with the actor before when Taron took on the role of Gary Eggsy Unwin in Kingsman: The Secret Service and its sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, films based on Marks comics. He also served as an executive producer, so we know he wouldnt be throwing out Tarons name if he didnt think he couldnt ace the role.

This news made its way over to Taron earlier in the week who, while saying hed totally be up for it, hasnt been approached by any Marvel bosses to take on the character. Well, that hell say anyway.

As far as Im aware its unfounded, he told HeartFM.
