Thor 4 is all but confirmed with Taika Waititi returning to direct, according to reports.

Could it actually be?

The New Zealand filmmaker worked his magic on 2017s Ragnarok and is poised to return to Marvel, so says The Hollywood Reporter, who has also claimed the adaptation of Akira has been put on hold in order for Waititi to take on Thors fourth standalone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Its also been reported by the website Chris Hemsworth is set to make his return as the mighty Norse god. Tbqh we see no one else as Thor, so this is a relief…if true.

Until we hear it from the man (men) himself (themselves), were going to remain optimistically sceptical (which is definitely a thing), but if Thor does return itll make the god the first Avenger to go beyond a trilogy.

Following the triumph of Thanos, Thor was in a real rut. Then, following the demise of Thanos, and, with him, the Infinity Stones, Thor moved to the sea, got real fat, and wanted nothing to do with his past as an Avenger and defender of mankind.

If Waititi is returning to the Marvel universe, it means Warner Bros Akira will be put on hold, though.

In May the project was announced with a scheduled release for 2021 – which might not be the case for much longer.

The widely respected Japanese manga series was one of the first to be translated into English, and Warner Bros announced a movie version will arrive on 21 May, 2021.

Akira is set in a post-apocalyptic, future-based city called Neo-Tokyo.
