The United States has welcomed its first baby born to a woman who had a womb transplanted into her body from a dead donor.
The baby girl was delivered at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, in June, by Cesarian section.
Surgeons transplanted the deceased donors uterus into the babys mothers body in late 2017.
That woman, who is in her mid-30s and has not been named, became pregnant through IVF in late 2018.
Cleveland Clinic transplant surgeon Dr Andreas Tzakis said the baby arrived without a hitch.
He explained: It was amazing how perfectly normal this delivery was, considering how extraordinary the occasion,.
