Brigades partner with Rotary to send equipment to East Timor

Fire fighters in East Timor will soon receive a generous and heartwarming donation thanks to a partnership between the Rotary Club of Margaret River and firefighters in the region. Brigades in the Capes region rallied together to send surplus personal protecting clothing and helmets to their counterparts in East Timor, after Rotarians noted a need for such equipment on their most recent 'Alternate School Leavers Week' visit last year. Accompanying the high school leavers as Team Leaders, Brian and Lynne Warren saw a lack of quality equipment and the Club made contact with emergency service authorities in Dili. The East Timorese services requested the items and once permission was granted from the local governments and DFES, the brigades began to collect surplus equipment. Missing parts, such as chin straps for helmets, were provided at no cost by valued suppliers. Rotarians and Wallcliffe Volunteer Fire Brigade fire fighters then got together to clean and pack the equipment which will be shipped to East Timor shortly.
