Avengers: Endgame star Jeremy Renner revealed that he was offered the role of Hellboy before Ron Perlman was approached.

And despite there being a lot of money on offer, the actor turned the role down.

I was just reading the script and was like, “I dont get this”, he revealed on fellow actor Justin Longs podcast, Life Is Short.

I just couldnt connect to it. I said I cant find a way in to this character, I dont know what Id be doing, so I had to say no.

And following on from the success of the movie and its sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the 48-year-old has said that he has zero regrets.

Theres zero regrets, zero. Most of the time its like, “oh, Im glad I didnt do it”, and it made sense to me.

Not just Hellboyor whatever it was, and Im not saying thats a good or bad movie, its not about that… I just wouldnt have fit there.

If Jeremy had ended up playing the fictional superhero, then we might not have seen him as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After all, its become one of the actors most successful roles, and hes starred as the Marvel character in five different films, with Avengers: Endgame being the most recent.

Jeremy later admitted on the podcast that he could attach to the role of Hawkeye.

When they showed me my character, its like, “oh, thats great, its just a guy with no superpower — hes just got a high skill set”.

I can actually attach to that.
