Members and supporters of the Margaret River Districts Historical Society (MRDHS) gathered at the group's headquarters at the Old Settlement last Sunday to celebrate a milestone occasion. As part of the group's 20th anniversary celebrations, the newly built wash house facility was unveiled to a large crowd, alongside the commemorative plaque installed to recognise local historian Mae Wise. The wash-house was completed thanks to donations of material and hours of manual labour, mostly by MRDHS members Bob and Phyllis Fox. MRDHS spokesperson Shelley Wightman said the space would house a number of historical items. "The room is now filled with various types of washing artefacts including wringers, flat irons and a copper that some of us would remember only too well," she said. Representatives of the Wise family attended the ceremony, including Mrs Wise's son Terry, who had the honour of unveiling the plaque. Mae's grandson Tyler Wise was also in attendance along with his family, as well as a large group of people who knew the late Mrs Wise either as a historian, talented pianist, singer or a friend. "Finally, well all took part in the singing of Happy Birthday, and enjoyed champagne and cake to finish off a most enjoyable and memorable day. "A big thank you from the Margaret River Districts Historical Society!"
