Years & Years singer Olly Alexander stole the show at Glastonbury on Sunday afternoon when delivering an emotional speech addressing the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.

The British pop group took to the iconic stage as Olly walked down the steps and performed a routine which involved kissing and stripping a dancer.

A number of messages were then displayed on the screens apparently directed towards Alexander.

Some of the homophobic messages stated: Hes a bit too gay. Just creeps me out while another said: He sounds gayer now, hes doing too much.

The posts were broadcast on screens before Years & Years started their performance and throughout their first song.

Later the 28-year-old paused the set and said: I believe there is no true LGBT equality until the fight against racism is over against sexism is over against ableism, bigotry, climate change.

While the word queer was plastered on the screen, he added: So its like a really big ask and I have no idea how we get there but what I do know is that if we want to get anywhere without leaving anyone behind, were going to have to help each other out.

"The only reason I'm able to be up here, is because of all the people that have come before me, that have fought for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people" ?️‍?❤

Elsewhere during his speech, he said: I talk about being gay. You might have already noticed some subtle messaging on the stage.

He added: Im gay and I talk about being gay a lot – I have my reasons.

I spent a lot of time feeling ashamed and now its like Im making up for lost time.

But what I wanted to say to you is the only reason Im able to be is because of the people that fought for the rights of LGBTQ people.

The crowd erupted in cheers as he spoke on about equality and gay rights for four minutes.
