South West anglers head north for winter | Photos

This time of year sees a large exodus of Margies crew heading to the warmer shores in the north of WA. If you are one of the lucky ones then don't forget a stop at Down South Camping and Outdoors to pick up your essentials. It's a really good idea to go through your tackle box and stock up on sinkers, leader, line, swivels, hooks and of course an array of lures, soft plastics and jigs for your trip. Not only are you not able to shop when you get to the places like Ningaloo station, Warroora and the Bluff, if you do happen to head in to Coral Bay or Exmouth you will find the prices of terminal tackle are through the roof. Please also you ensure that you have everything tied on to trailers, boats and roof racks – we have already heard one story of a local driving down the freeway only to see his spare tyre rolling past him! Fishing and Diving in the capes region has been pretty slow due to bad weather and big swells. Steve and Paul got out the other day from Augusta and managed to pick up a good size Pinkie and a couple of other species. We also had reports of good size duhies caught on that same day from Gracetown. Beach based fisho's are keeping an eye on the northerlies up in the Geographe Bay – eagerly awaiting a night for the Pink Snapper. A perfect activity for the school holidays is to take the kids to the river, beach or jetty for a fish. We have all the gear as well as the know how to help you get them amongst it. All it takes is a fishing rod, a pre-tied rig, some bait and a bucket. You could be eating fresh fish for dinner as well as getting the kids out of the house and away from the electronics. Divers in the area have been spoilt since Ant arrived back in the store. He has been working hard building roller guns, revamping older spearguns and tying up rubbers for the locals heading north. If you head to our Instagram page (@down_south_camping) you will see a gun he recently built that is not only speccy looking – it will slay the fish in the northern waters.
