Bulldogs’ Martin granted release hours before deadline closes
Rhyse Martin requested a release from the remainder of his Bulldogs deal just hours before his side faced the Sharks and on the same day the NRL's mid-season transfer deadline was due to close.
Martin was told he was free to join English Super League club Leeds, hastily arranging his exit before the June 30 window expired.
The 26-year-old Papua New Guinea international was only under contract at the club until the end of the season.
And with Canterbury re-shaping their salary cap Bulldogs officials agreed to Martin's request even though he was due to start from the bench for the wooden spoon favourites against Cronulla at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
