A 37 year-old commuter was struck and killed by a train after she dropped her phone onto the tracks and climbed down to retrieve it.

Felon Smith died after being hit by the Chicago L Train at the 69th Street Red Line station around 12:40pm on Thursday.

Felon was pronounced dead at the scene, with service on the Red Line disrupted for two and a half hours after the accident.

She ignored a warning telling riders to stay off the tracks.

The victims mother Jorgetta Martin shared the tragic news on Facebook, writing: FB PRAY FOR ME MY
DAUGHTER WAS KILLED THIS MORNING.

And last week Felon said: Good stuff has been happening all week to me I was in the nail salon and a lady paid for my feet to match my nails she was like there so pretty I want you to have it so sweet.
