If youve ever wondered whether 90s classic Forrest Gump could be released to the modern audience of 2019, producer Wendy Finerman has shed some ideas.

To her, she doesnt think the film would make it into cinemas today because the makers wouldnt be able to secure the necessary budget.

Ah, fair enough then. But theres more to it.

The 1994 comedy-drama which starred Tom Hanks as the titular character went on to win six Academy Awards, including best picture, best director for Robert Zemeckis and best actor for Tom.

Then in 2011 it was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

Yes, the film is that iconic.

When released in cinemas, it banked over $677million (£531million) at the international box office but Wendy- who revealed she spent nine years pitching the movie before it was made – was of the belief that the $55million (£43million) budget required to make the movie now just wouldnt be handed out due to the changing landscape of studio pockets.

I think Forrest Gump getting made today would be very difficult. To look back and say Forrest Gump would never get made today – we know thats probably true, she told Cinemablend.

It probably would be very difficult to get made today. And was still very difficult to, obviously, get made many years ago.

According to the landscape, those massive films with already-established brands might get a couple-hundred million to play with, while others that are yet to grace the senses of an audience would be lucky to get $10million (£7million).

The beloved film that continues to have the lot of us crying ugly tears with each viewing follows lovable Forrest through several decades of his life as he somehow became entangled in most of the 20th centurys historical events which shaped the United States.

Wendy added of the intense love punters still have for the flick: Theres nothing more rewarding than having a movie 25 years later, theyre still coming back with more stuff to put on the Blu-ray and theyre still coming back with more stuff to reopen the movie theatrically.
